MIDAS 3

Software developers view the MIDAS Client for Java as an essential ingredient in the immediate delivery of distributed applications to their internal and external clients. Energy trading company Triple Point Technology views it as a compelling solution for their Delphi-based applications.
"Our Energy, Power, and Commodities Trading Systems are developed with Delphi and rely heavily on MIDAS technology for their competitive advantages. Our development team is very skilled with Delphi, and we had customers asking us for more standards-based, open access using DCOM and CORBA. With the MIDAS Client for Java (JMIDAS), our Delphi developers are able to easily and rapidly build cross-platform solutions for our customers, many of whom have a heavy investment in Unix. We are very excited about the solutions we can now provide to our customers." Large financial organizations also see it as a core part of their distributed database application strategy. According to Bernie Cristosomo, Vice President, Global Finance Technology Architecture, at NationsBank, "The seamless integration of CORBA services into the COM/DCOM-based MIDAS technology gives our Delphi-based multi-tier application projects tremendous credibility and renewed life in terms of reuse." The MIDAS Client for Java (JMIDAS) is a set of Java Beans designed to be used with JBuilder 2. These Pure Java components give developers cross-platform client access to their high-performance Delphi-based MIDAS application servers. The JMIDAS components are available for purchase separately, and support the same disconnected and low-bandwidth distributed database capabilities previously only available with Delphi 4, Delphi 3, and C++Builder 3 Client/Server. Borland Delphi 4 Client/Server can be used to easily and rapidly develop MIDAS application servers with native high-speed connections via the Borland Database Engine (BDE) to dBASE, Paradox, Microsoft Access tables, and all major database servers, including Oracle8, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, and Sybase SQL Server. Support for non-BDE database connections is also provided in MIDAS 2. The MIDAS Client for Java beans can be used to easily and rapidly develop thin-client applications and applets that can share and modify data with these MIDAS application servers. New and existing MIDAS application servers can be CORBA-enabled with the click of a mouse button in Delphi 4, supporting simultaneous DCOM and CORBA support in the same application server. The CORBA compatibility allows the JMIDAS components to communicate from any platform with a Java Virtual Machine to MIDAS application servers running on Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98. When distributing these cross-platform thin clients, only the Java application or applet needs to be deployed. No configuration or additional files are required for client access. For further information on how to use the MIDAS Client for Java, see the online version of the JMIDAS Getting Started Guide. |
