Delphi 5 fixes and known issues
ACTIVEX SECTION

Areas of concentration under: activex

Area: activex\framework\activex controls\activeform

Reference Number: 66100
Status: Open
Date Reported: 7/23/99
Severity: Infrequently Encountered
Type: Crash

Problem:

Apartment threading model activeForm generated
by ActiveForm Wizard gives AV in the following
situation:

1.IE5's [Internet Option | Advanced | Browsing |
Launch browser windows in a separate process] is
not checked.

2.Launch two IEs which shows the same html
displaying the apartment threading model
activeform.

3. Close the first IE
4. Refresh the second IE

Active forms of other threading models don't crash
at all. We are not sure whose problem this is, IE or
Delphi.

[JBTS-DP40J3:#205]

Area: activex\framework\automation\com servers

Reference Number: 62093
Status: Open
Date Reported: 6/14/99
Severity: Infrequently Encountered
Type: Crash

Problem:

Exception message propagation over multiple COM
instances fails... Instead of the correct error
message reaching the client, the error message
gets changed to 'Catastrophic Failure'...

Area: activex\ide\import activex control

Reference Number: 62538
Status: Open
Date Reported: 6/21/99
Severity: Serious
Type: Basic Functionality Failure

Problem:

When you import an activeX control, if an _TLB
already exists by that name, you will be asked to
verify the overwriting of that file. It may appear that
the file was not overwritten (the behavior of what
should have been the overwritten control remains in
effect).
In fact, the overwrite does occur, but the IDE will
not recognize the new control until you close and
then reopen the newly created _TLB.pas file
(without saving it, since you've already performed
the overwrite).

Area: activex\ide\import activex control

Reference Number: 66780
Status: As Designed
Date Reported: 7/29/99
Severity: Serious
Type: Crash

Problem:

Certain controls which are not registered prior
to being imported (and which are thus registered
via the 'Add' button) do not behave properly once
imported.

Area: activex\third party\activex control containers

Reference Number: 65414
Status: Open
Date Reported: 7/16/99
Severity: Critical
Type: Crash

Problem:

Importing Microsoft's msdxm.ocx (aka: Windows
Mediaplayer) can kill Delphi and crash the operating
system.

Area: activex\third party\activex control containers

Reference Number: 67498
Status: Open
Date Reported: 8/3/99
Severity: Critical
Type: Crash

Problem:

AV occurs when using the FPEditorControl from the
TLB for Microsoft's FrontPage editor version 2.0.
Error occurs when closing the form that the ActiveX
Control is on.

Workaround:

Explicitly call free on the FPEditorControl in the
form's OnClose event.

Area: activex\type library\editor\general ui

Reference Number: 36203
Status: Open
Date Reported: 6/12/98
Severity: Commonly Encountered
Type: Minor Functionality Failure

Problem:

Keyboard shortcuts for cut/copy/paste don't work
when the treeview node is in edit mode -- ie on the
text itself. The speedmenu items do. Both work for
clipboard ops on the nodes themselves.

Area: activex\type library\editor\parameters page

Reference Number: 67996
Status: Open
Date Reported: 8/7/99
Severity: Extremely Rare Case
Type: Crash

Problem:

Adding 120 parameters to a method in the type
library editor causes Delphi to vanish.

Area: activex\type library\editor\refresh

Reference Number: 47249
Status: Open
Date Reported: 3/26/99
Severity: Infrequently Encountered
Type: Minor Functionality Failure

Problem:

When you change the name of a method, and add
the a method with the same name as the old name
of the changed one, the refresh only picks up the
name change, not the add.

Workaround:

Refresh twice.

Area: activex\type library\editor\text page

Reference Number: 61200
Status: Open
Date Reported: 5/25/99
Severity: Infrequently Encountered
Type: Crash

Problem:

Data loss when working with Text pane of a
CoClass. The CoClass can lose the information
about the Interfaces it implements.

Area: activex\type library\import

Reference Number: 67954
Status: Open
Date Reported: 8/7/99
Severity: Commonly Encountered
Type: Basic Functionality Failure

Problem:

importing slbcsplib.dll, a win2k system file, results in
code that doesn't compile because it attempts to
declare a type BYTE which is an alias to type byte.

Workaround:

Comment out the line with the redeclaration.

Area: activex\type library\import

Reference Number: 67955
Status: Open
Date Reported: 8/7/99
Severity: Commonly Encountered
Type: Basic Functionality Failure

Problem:

Importing the attached proctexe.exe
(a win2k beta system file) results in code that
doesn't compile because we generate a setter for a
read-only property.
