Areas of concentration under: install
Area: install\bde tools Problem: Install for DataGateway crashes with _ins0432 error when your classpath is very long. Area: install\bde tools Problem: Under Windows 95 only, explorer does not show an Icon for Data Gateway. Area: install\bde tools Problem: When installing the BDE SDK, if you install SDK files to drive with enough disk space and the BDE to drive without enough disk space you do not get an error. Area: install\bde tools Problem: BDEADMIN.cpl is not removed when uninstalling delphi3.0 from windows\system Area: install\bde tools Problem: The Datagateway server .exe will not run if you have an end-of-file character preceding your datagateway tcp/ip entry in the Services file. Area: install\cd layout Problem: [STD version] Installation of ISX is missing in Standard version. As far as I am informed, ISX should not be in the setup launcher, but should be on the CD. Area: install\cd layout Problem: In CD iamge Time stamp for image\windows\system32\nt\ctl3d32.dll is set to 6/17/98 4:00am. It should keep orginal time stamp insted. Area: install\filecompares Problem: French Only: BDEAdmin.exe does not code base compare. Area: install\files Problem: The file 'install.txt' of CSS says that a full install requires 154 MB. This needs to be updated for all skus. Steps: Use 190 for full CSS Use 160 for full PRO Use 120 for full STD Area: install\files Problem: The following files should not get installed with PRO or STD: SVCMGR.DCU and SVCMGR.PAS Area: install\files Problem: The following files are not codesigned (probably should be): windows\system\vcljpg40.bpl windows\system\vclmid40.bpl bin\netscape3\isapiter.dll windows\system\stdvcl40.dll Area: install\files Problem: The .lic files are installed regardless of selection of installing sample ActiveX controls. Steps: Install D4 and under program files, uncheck the box for sample ActiveX controls (i.e. Do a custom install and leave out the sample ActiveX controls) Note you will still end up with: cfx32.lic vcf1.lic vcfi.lic vs.lic Area: install\install execution Problem: After an install, a shortcut for Datapump gets created in the windows start menu (folder). Shouldn't be there, datapump does not get installed. > > > > > > > > > The empty icon will also appear on the STD SKU. Area: install\install execution Problem: During the interbase client install, I got a dialog box saying: Severe Internal error near: IBCheck Steps: I installed the teamday build with all the standard settings, except I installed delphi into D:\Delphi4 instead of the suggested location. Area: install\install execution Problem: PRO SKU: Installation cannot find PVCS full version installed. Area: install\install execution Problem: There is a long file name problem for the shared dll entry of the debugger dll. Area: install\install execution Problem: Long filename problem in the Shared Dll section for some Visibroker dll's. Steps: - Install Delphi with Visibroker stuff - Check HKLM\Software\mickisoft\currentversion\shared dll's for the entries to : - VBJRUN~1.dll - SYSRES~1.dll - AWT~1.pro - CONTEN~1.pro - FONT~1.pro - SERIAL~1.pro - JAVA~1.sec Area: install\install execution Problem: Path does not set correctly, Command line tools can not be used. It seem on some NT only There is a problem is when the PATH key does not exist or if it is a NULL string. Area: install\install execution Problem: The Visibroker path should be installed in the SYSTEM path for NT and not on the USER path. Steps: - The reason is that on NT the services (OAD especially) searches the SYSTEM path and NOT the USER path when it attempts to start the server. Area: install\install execution Problem: The folder created in the start menu of windows talks about InterBase 5.0. Should be 5.1 Steps: - install server version of interbase - in windows: - click start - click Programs Area: install\install execution Problem: Add some info to the Sql Configuration screen that summarizes the following: The MSAccess 97 driver is checked by default on the Sql Configuration screen. However, if MSAccess 95 is currently on the system, then the install is intelligent and will configure the system with the 95 driver. Steps: Install to a machine with MSAccess 95 already installed. Select 'Custom' Select only BDE files < Next > On Sql Configuration screen, notice that MSAccess 97 driver is checked by default Continue installation Run Bdeadmin and see that the correct dll for MSAccess 95 has been installed (Iddao32.dll) Area: install\install execution Problem: Unable to install product unless entire CD is copied to hard drive first. Receive error: -13 Steps: Perform install with any options, and error -13 occurs right away. Only by copying entire CD tor hard drive will install work Area: install\install execution Problem: Unexpected failure while attempting to install on a drive with insufficient room. Steps: 1. Attemp to install on drive with insufficient room. 2. Install displays an error dialog -- not enough disk space -- free space and click continue. 3. I believe that the dialog is system modal so that it is not possible to free any space as directed -- the only option is to cancel the install, free space, and start over. Area: install\install execution Problem: There is an inconsistency in the Delphi 4 installation from Delphi 3 Steps: When Delphi 3 is installed, the BDE API help file is added to the Delphi 3 program folder on the start menu Delphi 4's installation does not add it - it should be added into the Help subfolder Area: install\install execution Problem: Installation program adds the Database Desktop, Image Editor etc. tools to the Tools menu even though they are already there. Reinstalling Delphi without removing it first results in duplicate entries on the Tools menu. Area: install\launcher Problem: When you run the install program, and then exit it before it installs, then click Register Now!, it does nothing. Steps: - Run install.exe - Click Cancel, then Exit Setup - Click Register Now! and see it do nothing. Area: install\registry settings Problem: Hard-coded string used by DBX in css.brf & pro.brf "Borland Database Engine Sample Data Dictionary" Area: install\registry settings Problem: A key is left in the registry after an install of 4.0, then the Update 2, then an uninstall: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninsta ll\delphi 4 update #2 Steps: Install Delphi 4, typical install. Install update 2. Uninstall Delphi 4. Check registry. Area: install\registry settings Problem: When you do the install from the Delphi 4 Cd there is a BDE registry key value that is not created. The missing key value is My Computer\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Borland\ Database Engine\Settings\Drivers\Sybase\DB OPEN Value Name : CS CURSOR ROWS Data: 1 Steps: 1) Do a Delphi 4 install from theCD (Client/Server). 2) Go to the registry and look for the value Area: install\registry settings Problem: PRO: The configure palette dialog should not show the Decison Cube palette in the list. Steps: - Choose Components | Configure Palette... - See Decision Cube in the list Area: install\sku differences Problem: Run Service pack install on a wrong SKU will give an error message dialog. And there is a typo in in: "....aslo ...." should be "....also....." Steps: - Install Delphi 4 C/S - Run Service pack install for PRO // Notice that there is a typo in the error dialog Area: install\uninstall Problem: The Update Pack #2 install does not put the following 2 files in the uninstall file. After the Delphi 4 uninstall these 2 files are left over. sqldb2v5.dll sql_dbv5.cnf Area: install\uninstall Problem: Because the interbase install does not remove registry entries and services completely, an error will be seen at the next reboot after uninstall: "unable to start one or more services". Steps:
Install and uninstall Interbase server.
The following entries should have been removed:
- The Interbase Server entry gds-db 3050/tcp in the
win\sys\services file
- The Interbase Remote Service in Control

Area: install\user interface Problem: Setup launcher of Delphi CSS: Hint of Delphi installation says that a full installation requires 154 MB. Needs to be updated, also for pro and std sku. Area: install\user interface Problem: Hard-coded strings in "Select Component Directories" dialog: "Select Component Directories" "Avail:" "Req:" Area: install\user interface Problem: Hard-coded message in defs.h #define REGISTER_TITLE "Register Now!" Area: install\user interface Problem: Hard-coded string "Database Desktop" in defs.h: DBD32_ROOT Area: install\user interface Problem: The serial number edit is blank if you have already entered it and are using the back button to return to that "page" of the install. Steps: 1. Enter the serial number 2. Press Next 3. Press Back. // Notice the serial number is blank Area: install\user interface Problem: In the password dialog of C/S service pack install, it should mention "Client/Server Edition" rather than "Professional Editon". Steps: - Install Delphi 4 C/S - Run Service pack install - Click Next on the first page // Notice on the password dialog, it should say "... on the cover of your Delphi 4 Client/Server Edition" Area: install\user interface Problem: In the summary of information in the dialog before install starts to copy files, the words for Custom, Typical and Minimal are hard-coded. This prevents translation in the localized product. Steps: * Start installation * Select typical install * Click next until the page with the summary of information detailing the type of install the user is doing. // the word Typical is hard-coded // similarly for Minimal and Custom Area: install\user interface Problem: German Only: The About InstallShiedl dialog is in English. Steps: * start install * Minimize it * Right click on it in the task bar // note about in English * Select About // note the dialog in English Area: install\user interface Problem: Minor nit -- When doing a custom install, on entry to the Select components page, the 'Back' button appears as default (with a darker border). It and the 'Next' button function as they should; it just looks weird. Area: install\user interface Problem: Software License Agreement has the phrase "Important Read Carefully" stuck at the top when you start installing Between the words "Important" and "Read" is a black square, I guesss it's a high ANSI character that didn't work in the font used to display the license agreement. It looks bad Area: install\user interface Problem: Installer shows scrollbar in empty listbox Steps: In install, select custom, go the the detailed componnet list. Select SQL links, then go back to BDE. The righthand listbox is emply, since there are no bde options, but there's a working scrollbar that make it look like something is supposed to be there. Area: install\user interface Problem: In the install-progress window the following string is displayed: "Programmdateien werden in das Windows Systemverzeichnis" The correct string would be: "Programmdateien werden in das Windows Systemverzeichnis kopiert" The progress-window is not wide enough to display the whole string. Steps:
1. Install Delphi 4 German.
2. Watch the install progress window.
3. ***Note the truncation of the string mentioned
left.
It is not very long visible.
Area: install\user interface Problem: On the last page of the install, it says: "installation ofDelphi" There should be a space in between. Steps: - Install CSS Delphi 4 - Run Service pack install - Click Next - Type serial numbers and authorization key, click Next // In the "Current Settings" listbox.....
