Installation instructions

Read all the instructions through once before applying the update. The following description assumes that JBuilder 2005 has been installed in the Borland/JBuilder2005 directory. If you have installed JBuilder in a different directory, substitute the one that you used.

To install the JBuilder 2005 update,

  1. Exit JBuilder.

  2. Remove any JBuilder updates from the Borland/JBuilder2005/patch directory.

  3. Make a backup copy of the bin, defaults, lib, and templates directories in a separate directory that is not in your CLASSPATH.

Some of the files in these directories get overwritten by the update.

Note: The jbuilder.config file is overwritten when you install the update. You can move your backup copy back into Borland/JBuilder2005/bin after you install the update to reinstate your settings, but you must add the following line to ensure that the added JAR file for Swing fixes in the designer gets put on the boot path.

  4. Download the JBuilder 2005 update.

Note: If you use the Mac platform, follow the Installation instructions for the Mac platform in the following section to complete the installation of the update.

  5. Extract the files in jb2005_update_001.zip to the Borland/JBuilder2005 installation directory.

Note: If your operating system does not have a utility for unarchiving ZIP files, you can use the JAR utility in the JDK to unarchive ZIP files. Copy jb2005_update_001.zip to where you installed JBuilder 2005. At the command line, change to the directory where you installed JBuilder 2005 and enter the following command (where <jdk> is the directory in which the JRE or SDK is installed) for your platform to extract the files.

  6. Copy the files from the directory corresponding to your platform, bin_windows, bin_solaris, or the bin_linux, into the Borland/JBuilder2005/bin directory.

  7. Delete the bin_windows, bin_solaris, and bin_linux directories.

  8. Delete the <home>/.jbuilder2005/cactus/jspRedirector.jsp file (if it exists), before you start JBuilder.

The update files are now successfully installed and you can run JBuilder.

Installation instructions for the Mac platform

To install the JBuilder 2005 update for Mac,

  1. Extract the jb2005_update_001.zip files to a Temp directory.

Warning: Copying and pasting a directory from the Temp directory into your JBuilder installation will replace the entire directory. This patch replaces only a subset of files in your current JBuilder installation. Unless there is no corresponding directory in the JBuilder installation, copy the files only from the specified directories.

  2. Copy the files from the directories specified in the following table and paste them into the corresponding directories of your JBuilder installation.

If a corresponding directory does not exist in the JBuilder installation, copy the entire directory and subdirectories. If the context menu doesn't contain the Paste command, use the Edit|Paste menu.

Note: Some patch files replace existing files, so a confirmation dialog box appears during the copying operation. Choose Apply to all to speed up the copying operation.
